Youth Living In The Hoard
The #hashtag #YLITH was developed because I wanted a way to differentiate the YOUTH who may have opportunities to escape the hoard from time to time.
I wanted there to be a resource especially for YOUTH that are trying to navigate & escape a hoarded, chaotic home.
It can be a real challenge to figure out how to survive this. It’s hard to be socially isolated, unable to invite friends over. It’s difficult when you can’t properly explain why you don’t allow people in when they come to pick you up.
What I realized is that there are tools I used that helped me survive my teen years in the hoarded home as a teenager.
I discovered resources along the way for adults between the Adult Children of Hoarders website and various other options online. I also came across the #ACOH (Adult Children of Hoarders) hashtag. I explained a little more about this on another blog post.
I wanted to create something that would work specifically for the YOUTH struggling through hoarding situations.
#YLITH was born because I wanted a way to share the info for them under a unified heading on social media.
It is important to define, discuss and share with people the challenges of living in a hoard home with parents or caregivers that hoard. It is an stress to deal with that is extremely challenging to navigate!
It’s time for the #YLITH to be recognized as an important and valuable part of the conversation about hoarding. Our perspective is needed to create long term solutions.
Please reach out if you are struggling with people in your life that hoard. There are people who understand and are willing to listen and help you create solutions for YOUR survival!
